Rick Nye, the refuge manager at the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge, has seen it all and during a recent interview he shared his many thoughts and feelings regarding the refuge and erosion crisis. Since his arrival in 2021 Rick has had to manage and address the loss of a 100’ of the refuge bluff, the stump cutting and removal of 200 trees from the bluff and the beach at the foot of the refuge, the loss of the National Weather Service building, the demolition of the 100-year-old Coast Guard garage that served as residence for staff, interns, and visiting research partners. All this in just over two years.
