A Moment in Time: Colonel John Turner
The interactive exhibit A Moment in Time gives visitors the opportunity to meet some of the people who lived at the House of Seven Gables site. A three-hundred-year span is presented including the settlement of indigenous peoples, a hundred-year ownership of the Turner family, Nathaniel Hawthorne was born in the house and wrote his famous novel about it, the hidden room during the underground railroad period was in the attic of the house, and the charitable activities of Caroline Emmerton were conducted on the site. The exhibit received the Silver Muse Award from the American Association of Museums.
