Christie Beckley is a recent Monomoy Regional High School graduate and a current freshman at Harvard College. While at Monomoy, she conceived and worked with town officials to implement the Chatham Beach Protection Fund, a pool of money that will be used to protect the town’s beaches against the impact of climate change. The Monomoy Refuge has always been a special place for her, and seeing the impact of erosion showed her the vulnerability of her coastal community to climate change. As a high school student, she joined the Cape Cod Commission’s Climate Change Ambassador Program to learn more about its impact. She believes her generation will address the issue head on and anticipates being a leader in that process.
