In an interview for our film “No Refuge: Cape Cod’s Climate Crisis,” shorebird expert Brian Harrington said he is already starting to see changes to the invertebrates that live along the shore caused by climate change. They are at the very bottom of the food chain that many avian and fish species depend on. We need a better understanding of the changes to the invertebrate community in response to climate change to figure out how that will impact the birds that nest on the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge and those that migrate and stop over on other Cape habitats, as well as the species of fish that occupy the waters of the Cape.
